I've heard that all Buddha tathagatas who directly transmit inconceivable, wondrous dharma and actualize unsurpassed perfect enlightenment have a wondrous, unconstructed method I've heard that Buddhas who transmit an inconceivable Dharma live in this realm of inconceivable Dharma. And that
[01:11]
no trace of consciousness reaches their life in this inconceivable Dharma. Yet the Dharma illuminates their consciousness and that illuminated consciousness transmits the Dharma by an unconstructed method. The standard or the touchstone for this is called the self-fulfilling samadhi and sitting upright with body and mind dropping off.
[02:34]
is the authentic gate to this unrestricted, unconstructed realm of the samadhi of the Buddhas living in the inconceivable, wondrous dharma. All beings live in the same inconceivable dharma, but it is not actualized without the practice, without the being upright as the body and mind drop off. We have the opportunity today to practice this unconstructed method of being upright.
[04:19]
Practicing Zen, which means being upright, body and mind dropping off. Bodies and minds seek when they grasp. And bodies and minds often grasp. Bodies and minds are subjects and objects. that grasp objects as separate from subjects. When there's grasping, then there's seeking. The unconstructed way is no grasping and no seeking.
[05:38]
constructions arise constructions of things that don't exist arise moment by moment. There is the constant production of what does not exist. The method to enter and actualize the realm of dharma is giving up, grasping those constructions. And furthermore, we cannot make ourselves stop the construction or stop grasping the constructions. Still, the encouragement of living without grasping and seeking is appearing to your ears and eyes.
[07:00]
If now we are grasping a sense of things being external, out there, distant from our mind which knows them. This is grasping the self which does not exist in those things, and the self which does not exist in our knowing. Grasping the self, we are separate from each other, And we are separate from our own life and our own actions and our own decisions. And being separate from our own actions and decisions is suffering. Being separate from each other, or rather grasping the construction that we are separate, is the source of suffering.
[08:17]
So we have a chance now to sit upright and consider the possibility of realizing no grasping and no seeking, moment after moment, moment by moment, an unconstructed method of not grasping these mere constructions of separation between subject and object, knowing and what is known, unenlightened beings and enlightened beings, and so on. Breathing in and breathing out with no seeking or grasping.
[10:45]
This is nirvana. all things that appear outside external to your awareness.
[12:14]
Give that externality a rest. Breathe through the story of separation. Let the breath blow away any grasping and let the body and mind drop away into the realm of the inconceivable Dharma and enjoy sitting with all the Buddhas Right now, all the Buddhas are sitting at ease in the midst of the wondrous Dharma, giving us the Dharma which we are receiving
[13:55]
and giving back to them. Drop all body and mind and enjoy this imperceptible, mutual, giving and receiving of the wondrous Dharma. The door is round and open.
[19:41]
Don't go back to sleep and grasp and seek. May our intention equally penetrate every being and place with eternal merit above Buddha's way.
