Transcript:

Well, could we start studying case 69 now? Have any of you been directly swinging a sword during the last week? You have? Sure. Sure? Yes. Just two of you? How about you, Klaus? You know, I didn't hear the question. Have you been swinging, directly swinging the sword during last week? I don't know. Hmm? I don't know about directly. How are you been swinging it? I don't even know. I know I've been swinging something. Oh, that's good. You been swinging anything close? Weed whacker. What? Weed whacker. Does one know all the swinging of the sword?

[01:02]

Well, no, not necessarily, but whatever you know is the result of swinging the sword. or it depends on swinging the sword. It would be good if you knew. So whenever you know something, the sword has been swung. It would be nice if you would have spotted it, so you can be responsible for the world that your mind has created. I think I've been there moments like this. You've been there moments like that? Well, good, good. Harleen, come closer, please. Yeah, you'll see right up here next to Lisa, up front here.

[02:07]

This is Arlene. She's visiting our little class from Point Richmond. Do you still live over there? I'm actually part of the class. I just could come this time. But you're part of the class? You're not a visitor? No. No, you're a regular matriculated... Well, I'm in here, yeah. I signed up. There's two Arlenes. Let's see here. Arlene Rodini. That's you, right? Without the heartbeat. Okay, so this is one of those Zen kind of koans.

[03:17]

So, in the last koan, in the introduction, the last line of the introduction said, you know, Tell me, who is this? They want to know who somebody was in the last introduction. So here again, the introducer wants to know who he is. We're looking for somebody here. So who is it? It might be the same person as last time. Do you think it's the same person or a different person? Same person. Person. Okay, well, becoming a Buddha and being an ancestor is disliked for wearing a defiled name.

[04:28]

Wearing horns and fur... is pushed to the superior position. This is why the, quote, true light doesn't shine, great wisdom appears foolish, unquote. Yet there is another who is deaf for convenience and pretends not to be skillful. Do you know who she is? Do you know? You look like you knew. Who is this? Nantuan said his group. The Buddhas of the past, present, and future do not know it.

[05:36]

Cats and cows know it is. It actually says... I think you want to say is off the left. Pardon? I think you need to say is on both sides. Did anybody else hear me say is? What? You said the second is, but there's two is's and no's. Oh, I missed the first is. Yeah. Oh, sorry. That's what it is. Okay, the Buddhas don't know it is, but cows do know it is. Or cows know it is. And cats. Huh? And cats. And cats. I thought you said, and calfed.

[06:42]

That text. There's a deer out there. Excuse me, will you please come join the class? Well, they've got hair, but only the males have horns. Okay, so there it is. That's a simple story, right? If you mention horns, how come you didn't say patriarch in the first sentence? I said ancestor. Ancestor is non-gender, doesn't it? Patriarch is gender. Right. I... Well, uh... China, the Chinese character that they translate as patriarch in here could be translated as ancestor.

[07:50]

We had a debate about this one time over in Japan. And one scholar said, no, you've got to translate it patriarch because the The left-hand part of the left-hand radical in the character means phallus, so it really does refer to a man. But then he remembered that Amaterasu, who's the primary deity in Shinto in Japan and is a female, they use that term for her. So he said, oh, maybe he could say ancestor instead of patriarch. And in America for a while we've been saying ancestor Not knowing whether that was, you know, justified linguistically or philologically, but it seems to be okay to say ancestor, so we usually say ancestor now. Partly because it isn't necessarily male. Could be.

[08:56]

Could be a female cow. Do you know cows have horns sometimes? Have you ever seen a cow with horns? They do have horns sometimes. I don't know, do all cows have horns? I think lots of cows have horns. But I guess there's some breeds that don't have horns, only the males have horns. And another translation of this was oxen. And oxen, I think, is a neutered bull, right?

[10:01]

That's one of the meanings of oxen, a neutered bull. But another meaning of oxen is not necessarily a neutered bull, but just... cattle in general. I think the first meaning is a neutered bull. A neutered bovine bull. So I had a feeling in the introduction of 69 that this fellow, who is she or who is he, is definitely somebody you'd like to be hanging out with. But I have trouble... I'm guessing in the beginning of 68 that maybe you would, but that's sort of a guess.

[11:05]

Will you say it again, please? Oh, okay. The introduction of 69... Yeah, you're asking is this the same person in 1969. And I get the feeling in 69 that this is the person that I would like to be hanging out with. But I'm not sure in 68 whether, in other words, I'm not sure they are the same person. I'm guessing that they probably are. What is it about this person that you find so attractive? Well, I like the fact that this person is difficult, convenient, and not very skillful. And wearing horns and fur to me is entering the realm of conceptualization. Of what? Conceptualizing. Conceptualization. I'm not sure why I think that. I think it was... I got that idea at some point.

[12:11]

I forgot what led me to do that. So you think the cow represents entering conceptualization? The act of growing horns and hair on something seems to me to be an act of conceptualization. I'm not so sure that the cow itself is. Because I remember in those, the ten stories, we're waiting for this bull to get whiter and whiter and whiter all the time. I didn't understand what you found so attractive about this person. What was it? You just like the coming on unskillfully?

[13:29]

No, pretending not to be skillful. Pretending not to be skillful. Do you like the pretence? Well, I like the fact that this person is not acting as if they are outwardly skillful all the time, going around showing their skill all over the place. You like that? Yeah. Okay. Do you want to hang out with that person? Right now, but I'm beginning to doubt that. I'm beginning to think they've been hanging around the wrong crowd. I'll wait and see. Well, half of their whole thing, other than pretending, becomes a problem.

[14:43]

That's what it's hard to do. But their self-level was always a pretense. Where being unskilled was a pretense? In other words, you're not being true to yourself? It's always a pretense. It's always fake. And... Deaf or convenience, I don't know why else I would be so deaf, except by thinking that it's convenience. So when you ask the question, who is that, I heard my voice say, me. I feel like this is a character description of Nanchuan, almost. Feeling that this Nanchuan guy who likes to get down on all fours and be kicked. I don't know.

[15:50]

So maybe it's Nanchuan. Maybe. And maybe it's Elenia. Could it possibly be you? Hopefully. You want to go visit the great master, Mazda? Oh, yeah. You did? And when he asks you what's in the bucket, you want to say, shut up, old man? Shut up. Really? Wow. Shut up, old man. Shut up, old man, if you're going to talk like this. That's hiding your respect. So then later, Nanchuan went up to a lecturer

[17:07]

Maybe he was lecturing on the Nirvana Sutra, and he said, what is the ultimate principle of the Nirvana scripture? And the lecturer said, thusness is the ultimate principle. Nanjuan said, as soon as you call it, quote, thus, unquote, it has already changed. Monks in the present time should act in the midst of different kinds. Unquote. And Jojo, in the front of the monk's hall, so I don't know if he was like, you know, I don't know exactly where, you know, if he heard about this, or if he was there at the time, or what. But I think maybe later that he heard about this story, and then later he was standing in front of the monk's hall, and Zhaozhou said, I don't ask about different.

[18:29]

What about kind? And Nan Chuan pushed the ground with both hands, and Zhao Jiu kicked him, and Nan Chuan immediately fell over on the ground. And then Zhao Jiu ran into the life-prolonging hall, shouting, sorry, sorry. Nan Chuan had an attendant ask Zhao Jiu, sorry about what? And Zhao Jiu said, sorry I didn't kick him again. Nanchuan went up into the hall and said, Since youth I have sought, I have brought up a water buffalo. When I was herding in the east of the valley, I didn't let it eat the water plants in that country. When I was herding it in the west of the valley, I didn't let it eat the water plants in that country.

[19:40]

Now, it takes a little bit anywhere possible without being seen at all. One day, Nanjuan said, saw the bath steward heating the bath and said, after lunch, invite the water buffalo to bathe. The bath steward went and invited him. Nan Chuan said, did you bring a rope? Xiao Zhou pulled Nan Chuan's nose with his hand. Nan Chuan said, right, but too rough. Zhaozhou said, where does one who knows it go?

[20:43]

Nantuan said, to the house of the patron in front of the mountain, to be a water buffalo. Zhaozhou said, thanks for your directions. Nantuan said, Last night in the third watch, the moon came to the window. When Nantuan was about to pass away, the head monk asked, After you die, where will you go? Nantuan said, Down the mountain to be a water buffalo. The monk said, Can I follow you? Nanchuan said, If you follow me, you must come with a blade of grass in your mouth. This talk about different kinds was first spoken by Nanchuan.

[21:46]

Guishan joined in. Dawu and Yunyan transmitted it And now, it is Shaoshan's Three Falls. So, in the last story, we were reading about Shershuang and Shershuang and Shershuang's a disciple of the boatman, right? And we're reading about Jashan, right? And Jashan's disciple of Dawu, right?

[22:49]

And Dungsan, the disciple of Yunyan. So these people picked up this teaching from another lineage, this teaching about different kinds. So Da Wu studied with Baijian, Waihai, before he studied with Yaoshan. And Nanchuan is a Dharma brother to Waihai. So Dawu also had some contact with Nanchuan. As it says in the next line, when Dawu went to Nanchuan, Nanchuan said, what is your name?

[23:52]

Dawu said, jungsa, source knowledge. Nanjuan said, where knowledge doesn't reach, how can you take as a source? What can you take as a source? Do you have how can you take? What do you have? How can you take as a source? What did you say? How can I take as a source? Da Wu said, Just don't speak about it. Nan Chuan said, Clearly, if you speak it, then horns grow on your head. Three days later, as Da Wu and Yin Yan were in the back room mending, Nan Chuan passed by and asked, The other day I said, Where knowledge doesn't reach, just don't speak of it. If you speak of it, horns grow on the head.

[24:58]

How do you put it into practice?" Da Wu immediately got up and went out into the meditation hall. Nan Chuan left. Yun Yan asked Da Wu, Why didn't you answer the teacher just then?" Dawu said, You are so sharp. Yunyan didn't get it and instead went to ask Nanchuan. Why didn't Dawu answer the issue just then? Nanchuan said, He is acting within different kinds. Yunyan said, what is acting within different kinds? Nantuan said, haven't you been told, quote, where knowledge doesn't reach, just don't speak of it?

[26:03]

If you speak of it, then horns grow on your head. You must act within different kinds. Yunyan still didn't understand. Dawu knew he didn't get it, so he said, this man's affinity is not here. So he went back together with Yunyan to Yaoshan. Yunyan subsequently related the foregoing story to Yaoshan, who said, how did you understand this time there? that you have now come back?" Yunyan had no reply. Yaoshan then laughed. Yunyan then asked, What is acting within different kinds? Yaoshan said, I'm tired today.

[27:07]

Come another time. Yunyan said, I have come back especially for this. Yaoshan said, go away for now. So Yunyan then left. Dawu was outside the abbot's room. Hearing Yunyan's failure, unconsciously, he bit his finger so hard it bled. He went down and asked his elder brother about what he had asked the teacher. Yunyan said, the teacher didn't explain it to me. Dawu hung his head. When both men were standing in attendance, Dawu said, Where knowledge doesn't reach, don't speak of. Don't speak of? Hmm? Yeah.

[28:08]

Don't speak of. You have to leave it out, because then you're speaking of it. Thanks, Bruno. If you speak of it, then horns grow on the head. Da Wu immediately said goodbye and went out. Yun Yan then asked Yao Shan, Why didn't little brother Da Wu answer you? Yao Shan said, Today my back is sore. He understands. You should go ask him. Yun Yan then asked Da Wu, Why didn't you answer the teacher just then?" Dawu said, I have a headache today. Go ask the teacher. Later, when Yuen Yuen passed on, he sent someone with a letter of farewell to Dawu.

[29:13]

After Dawu read it, he said, Yunyuan didn't know it. Too bad. I didn't tell him that time. Anyway, even so, actually, he was nonetheless a successor of Yaoshan. Tzu Yan Tzu said, Da Wu said Yun Yan didn't know it is. Too bad I didn't tell him that time. In speaking thus, did he know it is or not? I say Yun Yan was the teacher of Dung Shan.

[30:16]

the source of the whole branch over and over, time and again. He didn't understand this matter. I have thoroughly recorded this to give people of later times one half power, help in looking into it from the side. Was it only Yuen Yen who didn't know it? Is? Suiyan Zhe said, Da Wu, did Da Wu know or not? I say, not only Da Wu, does Suiyan himself know or not? Have you not seen how a monk asked Changsha, Why didn't the Buddhas of the past and the future know it is?

[31:24]

Changsha said, Before entering the deer park, they still had realized a little. The monk said, Why do cats and cows know it is? Changsha said, What's so strange about that? At this point, I can just look on from the side. Even the great Tien Tung must praise. The following notes and extracts from the laconic sayings of Saushan about what he called three faults.

[32:45]

Their original form is not known. And here we have taken different sayings from different conversations and put them all together under the fall to which they refer. The first fall is called the fall of the ascetics. Being a buffalo, wearing hair and horns, not clinging to the business of asceticism. or the states of reward of the saints. Not staying in the absolute, not choosing one as a state. The fall of the precious. Not enjoying food. This food is the fundamental endowment.

[33:48]

Not knowing it exists yet, Not knowing it exists yet not grasping it is called the fall of the precious. Not knowing it exists yet not grasping it is called the fall of the precious. The body of reality, the objective reality, are precious things. They too must be overturned. This is the fall of the precious. For example, the white ox on open ground is the ultimate symbol of the body of reality. This too must be overturned so as to avoid settling down in uniformity without discernment. The Fall According to Kind Not cutting off sound and form,

[34:52]

As a beginner, knowing there is one's own fundamental endowment, then turning back the light, shutting out all forms, sounds, smells, tastes, feelings, conceptions, to attain tranquility. Then after fully accomplishing this tranquility, not clinging to the six sense fields, falling into them without being befuddled, letting be unhindered. Ordinary feelings and religious experience end and are forgotten. No more need to cut off anything in the fields of sense experience than you can take food. The fundamental endowment is called one's own thing, as well as that person and the original face.

[36:06]

It is often spoken of in the Tsao Tung lineage. Tsao Tung is Tsao Shan and Tung Shan union, that lineage. That is what they want us to know exists to begin with. That is what they want us to know exists to begin with. Nan Chuan, with whom Tung Shan once studied, said, first go over to the other side and realize it exists, then come back to this side and practice. Greg?

[38:10]

I'm wondering why we're here talking about this. Pardon? I'm wondering why we're here talking about this. Yeah. What's this got to do with? With? With what? Is that what you're wondering? Mm-hmm. Sort of. Yeah. what's this got to do with? It seems to me that the whole rest of this is that we shouldn't be here talking about it. Maybe shouldn't is the right word, but that's, as soon as you start talking about it somehow, But is it okay that we're here?

[39:20]

No. Well, before you raised your hand, we were pretty quiet. We weren't talking about it, were we? No. Cats and cows don't talk about it. So we're not going to talk about it, are we? Maybe just a little bit. Oh, Stuart. Well, but even if we don't talk about it, still we, they want us, some of those, we hear that they want us to know it is. So let's not talk about it, but let's know it is, shall we? I think cats and cows talk about it, they just use cat language and cow language.

[40:27]

But the important thing is they know it is. Right? They know it is. Talk about what? We're not supposed to. We're not supposed to. You want to talk about it, even though Okay, so what do you want to say about it? Actually, I thought you were asking do I want us to talk about it? Oh yeah, us would be fine too. Excluding you. Excluding you. Do you want them to talk about it? Okay, would you guys talk about it? About that person? I mean, unless you think it's not good to talk about that person. But Do you agree it's good to know that it is? You don't agree with that? Well, I probably... What do you think, Cindy?

[41:35]

But I thought that, you know, with the very beginning of the case, I was totally mystified until I thought that I understood what I read at the very end. It says... Oh, at the very end, there's an added saying... The Buddhas of past, present and future don't know what it is just because they don't live. And cats and cows do know what it is because they don't know what it is. The message depends on which it is you're talking about. So I thought that they were trying to make a distinction between two. But you say that you know that it is, you don't know. So you don't and you don't speak of it. I can understand that you would say what you just said. But still, you know, who is this?

[42:42]

Who is this? What did you say? When you say, who is this? Yes. Isn't this the enlightened man or woman who acts like this? Well, aside from the enlightened part, you can just put that in parentheses, okay? Sure. This person, this man or woman, who is it? Realize the question. But you're sort of just going back to the thing we just put in parentheses. Who is it? I mean, who is it means who is it, rather than tell me their accomplishments or whatever. Who is it? Who is that? Right.

[43:44]

That's right. Who is it? Buddha? Pardon? Buddha? Buddha, well, that's kind of, you know, that's fine. But who is Buddha? But anyway, who is Buddha, but who is this person? This is bifurcating activity, isn't it? This person is bifurcating activity? It's the absolute and relative. There's something between the two? Well, it's the sword. The person is the sword? that person is at that point where the sword cuts through the absolute and the relative. Yeah, but everybody's at that place, aren't they?

[44:49]

Isn't that where everybody lives? Is there an element of awareness, perhaps? You mean, is the element of awareness something that has to do with the different kinds? Right, like going to one side and then coming back. But going to one side, what is that one side? It's the absolute, and then coming back to the relative. It's the absolute. Ultimate reality? Well, is it the absolute or the ultimate reality, or is it being there and realizing that and coming back?

[45:57]

Because the ultimate reality must not be some other place. It wouldn't be ultimate if it was just in some neighborhoods. So you can't go to the ultimate. You can't go from here over to the ultimate, or come over here from the ultimate. So I don't think it's the ultimate, but it has something to do with some special relationship, some realizing the ultimate. Don't you think? That when they say go to one side and then come back from realizing the ultimate, we have to realize the ultimate and the conventional. We have to realize both. That's what you're saying, right? But who is this person? How do you put this into action?

[47:04]

How do you put this into practice? Is it the one who doesn't have dust in their eyes? Right, but that's right. Your people are coming up with more and more names for this person. I don't want another name for this person, although, I mean, you could keep doing it. But I was kind of asking, who is it, rather than just sort of saying, well, it's Carol or it's Denise. Yeah, but who is that? This? Well, it's me, but that's not what I was going to say. Are cats and cows the ones who don't come back? Are they the ones who don't come back? Stuart? I think it's Liz. Pardon? I think it's Liz. Welcome to class.

[48:06]

Thanks for dropping by. We've been wondering about you. Now we know. No, not that one. I didn't mean that one. Kevin? Just a thought. Maybe it's all beings and each of these things that we've mentioned are just manifestation bodies. Yes, yes? I'd like to show you my new house. Hmm. The buttons are brighter. Pardon? The buttons are even brighter. My buttons are brighter than the top of my head? I have something to do with not moving.

[49:36]

The person we're looking for is not moving? I think that's probably so. This person is not moving. You know, Vernon works for Standard Oil. Maybe he's the good one. That's why I came here. We come by the light, not the dark. One problem of hiding your light is it gets hot inside. Does it have anything to do with what you were talking about in another class?

[50:57]

Yes, it has to do with that. But who is it? Who is it? One who doesn't look forward or backwards, but is in the present. Sounds good. It's not great. Pardon? You're not, you're not satisfied. No. Do you know what it is? I'll do that. I just want to confess something. It's I alone am good. world's iron wire?

[52:08]

I can't run with this guy, Jackie. What did you say? I said, I can't run with this guy. Two real estate agents. I can't run with this guy. Which one is the listing? I always get listings. I work for the buyers. I always sell it. They think buyers are liars. And sellers are storytellers. Could you say, this one is not different from you and I?

[53:21]

You could say that, definitely. And you could also say it's not the same too, right? What doesn't know? Well, we're not talking about this, are we? Is rolling horse related to Pinocchio? Once again. The nose thing. The nose thing. And the growing horns. That's a good one.

[54:32]

If I say too much, I feel that I was actually sitting as a rug bearer to be noticed that way. Yeah, be careful. And I don't want to. It also feels like if I swing the sword and it's got horns, Well, no. Klaus, you looked at your watch. Yeah, I did. Where'd you find out? It's half past eight. Are you wasting your time? I think so. Good. How would you like to work $220 to waste my time with you? You drew up 220 miles? No, I said it's a 120-mile round trip. Oh, round trip. Yeah. You're not going to waste your time.

[55:35]

No. Well, go ahead. Just once. I fell asleep. So, how long is this? I think it's going to go on. Maybe that's why I was... Just a second. He's still opening it to you. So what did you learn in class tonight?

[56:39]

Nothing. You learned nothing so far. Well, at least we kept ourselves away from the TV. Nobody's been watching TV for the last hour, right? You've been sort of pretty much on your own, right? Yeah. Nobody's gotten any, well, much information. Got a little bit, though, didn't you? About the three falls. But you pretty much forgot what they were, right? But you know where they are. They're in this book here. Pardon? I thought you said it's on page 79, but it's not on page 79.

[57:44]

It's on page 52. It's interesting, you know, it doesn't say what year it was published. I remember then. I don't think it was the book. I came home to ask Klaus sleeping and my daughter was running up and down the stairs.

[58:53]

Just chasing your mother. So, Ellen, what have you learned tonight? Totally mystified. Just my head is just spinning. Spinning? Creighton, what did you learn tonight? I learned that I still haven't found the way to answer the question. Could you say it louder, please? For the tape? I learned that I still haven't found the way to answer the question. It feels very close. What's the question? Who is it? Who is it? What have you learned, Yvonne? It's a mystery. Now, is this mystery located in your head, or in your abdomen, or in your heart, Ellen?

[59:55]

I believe it's probably inside of all of us. What did you learn, Anna? Patience. Patience? You look so happy. Oh, I see. She's not complaining, huh? What did you learn, Liz? I'm appreciating the love stories and all... What did you learn, Jane? What did you learn, Mary? Congratulations. What did you learn, Mary?

[61:00]

It is. What? I learned that the answer that was, it is, without really having to explain it, it's here. But somebody is talking about it. Talking about it? They are? Oh, he caught you. What did you learn, Vernon? That the question is in my head, and I appreciate what you asked for. That's what I feel. And... What's in your abdomen? The answer. The cancer's in your abdomen and the question's in your head? That's convenient. They're all within my soul. And what's in your heart? You... Compassion. What's in your guts?

[62:18]

The answer. I wanted to say, if you get an opportunity, is that I read this story. It's a love story around these human beings, and I felt the deepest compassion of these human beings. You felt their compassion? Yeah. I was totally engrossed in the story. What did you learn, Meg? It's the warm summer evening. Is it too hot in here? The air is okay? What did you learn, Diana? To be quiet. Nuke. What did you learn, Harleen, number one? Stop trying.

[63:24]

Stop just giving up. What did you learn, Miriam? Something like that, about wanting to understand from the outside. I like whatever someone said back there about... Looking inside. Looking out. What did you learn, Gordon? There's a following, my friend. How about you, Roberta? I'm a human being. Um, also, I've, uh, I wrote into this another scripture, which is chaos. I like that.

[64:24]

How about you, Jeremy? John, what did you learn tonight? A little bit about light-heartedness. What did you learn about it? It feels good. John, what did you learn tonight? Another one behind me? Yeah, kind of lined up here. This is the John thing here. Where did you learn, Carol? I'm the first year. Can I tell a little bit of TV or something?

[65:37]

Sure. Thank you. Don't rub it, though. What can appear that's stranger than this? What did you learn, Jackie? What did you learn, Rosie?

[66:39]

What did you learn, Lee? Three eons is a long time. What did you learn, Lee? What? Pardon? What did you learn, Lee? I learned that 30 minutes of sleep is a pretty good nap. Ha, ha, ha! [...] I just kept asking myself what getting the track means.

[67:44]

I was just asking myself the question. So I haven't learned anything but to ask the question. What did you learn, Stuart? Maybe I shouldn't come to class all the time. What did you learn, Stuart? I learned another lesson in a series of classes on the thorough goings of the ancients and their inspiring examples. What did you learn, Martha? This story gives me... response. How about you, Greg?

[68:52]

Mm-hmm. Katelyn? You know, quite a few things. A couple hundred things. Emmanuel? This is a tough lead to crack for me. This case. Denise? You make a lot out of a little. What was the date of your wedding? June 6th. June 6th. I'm very sorry. I missed it. I was tending to come. Sorry I missed it. Congratulations, I heard it was a wonderful wedding. I almost missed the one yesterday too, but the last minute somebody reminded me, so I went.

[69:57]

And then I saw you and Stephen sitting there and I thought, oops. Is their wedding about to happen or should it just happen? They wouldn't have been sitting together in dark areas. Right. I noticed that they were separate always before. Well, this case seems to me, you know, it made a little out of much. And now we're making much out of little. Did I ask you, Kevin, what you learned already? Yes.

[71:03]

I did? Okay. Klaus, what did you learn? It's simple. Don't look outside yourself. Where did you learn that? What did I learn? I learned who is he. I learned who is he. And I'm very grateful to learn that. I hope I can put it into practice.

[72:06]

What do you want us to learn? I want you to learn who she is. Who she is. How she is. That she is. What she is. When she is. and I guess even where she is. Matthew, how about you?

[73:34]

I learned that I keep raising my left shoulder without really being aware of it. And I realized it after I opened it. I think that's just how stiff it is for my upper back. Liz? I've heard that when I think I'm saying one thing, I may really be saying something else. How about you? I'm not sure I've learned anything. More like I've experienced a lot of confusion. Were you fairly clear about that confusion? Good question. I'd like to experience it, but I don't think I can think about it.

[74:41]

Megan, did you learn something tonight? I want to focus on who it is and be a part of this conversation. Lance, what did you learn? I learned that it's sometimes not worth trying to talk about it, and that trying to come up with the right answer is not always the best strategy. Dave? Well, I was confused by the stories, but I appreciated their sense of attention and demand of attention in preparation to school. I have a question.

[75:49]

Would you say that Who is he? Is he the same as... I'm not him, but he is me. Would I say that it's the same? I feel like the question is more like we were talking about last week, you know. The question is more like profound talk entering into the principle. And saying, he is not me, I am exactly him, is more like activity, establishing a method, setting up a school. Did you learn something, friend?

[77:00]

I learned that both Klaus and Jackie are real estate agents. And also, I learned that it's just fine to sit right here and, even if not talking about it, listen about it. Sala, what did you learn tonight? That I'm still afraid. Daniel? I learned three or four pages worth of stuff, but I seem to have forgotten all of it. It's okay to be impatient and still open your heart.

[78:16]

You can open your heart while you're being impatient, is that what you're saying? Well, have I asked everybody what they've learned now? Do you want to keep studying this case a little longer? What did you say, Liz? We may continue to act out. Yeah. Well, as one of the Liz's said, for some reason or other, what would you say I was in relationship to these stories?

[79:29]

You seem to have loved them. I seem to have loved them? Yeah, I love this story. So I'm willing to keep studying this story with you for another week or so. I'm willing to deal with... What? Okay, so one more week. And I'm willing to talk about it all the way through Sashin. No, let's go on to Seventies. Seventies are really delightful-looking days. I don't know if Piglet doesn't know what it is. I don't know if Piglet knows what it is. I suspect that Piglet doesn't even know what Piglet is.

[80:45]

Well, why don't you keep working on this another week? See how it goes. I feel like I want to ask those questions from the sit. Yeah. Can I throw my vote? I'm going to say that I've just decided that these are two different people. Oh, who are they? Well, one swings his sword and the other does. You don't mean a thing. If you ain't got that swing. But we're going to keep studying this case anyway.

[82:02]

You are good. That's what this is about. sympathy for these people. They need your help. Without you, they're totally dead. Amen.
