we just chanted am
obverse which an english could be called the lofty ancestor
a haze vs on for arousing the bodhisattva vow
and one and when you were chanting it
i just felt lot of joy listening to you chant this and i thought what a good deal this is
like you know if you practice confession repentance you're gonna get a lot of of help you're gonna get a big reward for
confessing and saying you're sorry for your shortcomings

yes really sounds like a great deal
oh yes did you ever think about having a study that like go through it i just did
thank you
and actually we we studied every time we can we study it where it were were reciting it and we're almost memorizing it right
and i often comment on it but we also have a class to study it
could be thank you for the idea
thank you to

i could give you a long
revelation of my understanding of the geology of the geological process of the hawaiian islands

but before i do that if i ever do it i just want to mention that i feel like i am sitting on a hotspot
and there's a volcanic activity going on in my body and mind and as joyful
and the hotspot is i think the hot-spot
has something to do with
the teachings of
our true nature

part of the reason why the mention the hawaiian islands is because right now there is new volcanic activity going on there
on the big island
for a long time the that island was made by volcanic activity and for a long time the the there's two there's two peaks on that island
they're both about more than thirteen thousand feet above the water
and there are two thousand and six thousand feet below the water
those to the the tallest mountains in the world
the there are thirty nine thousand feet tall and one of them
used to be one of them as taller than the one that's the me just say that the quite islands go from south east to north west drawn line from southeast to northwest and those does the role of islands
ah all the islands in that role used to be volcanoes and one of them to look to the big island is still
as active volcanoes on the other ones all used to be active volcanoes
but they're on a conveyor belt like and a volcano building conveyor belt which is moving up the bottom of the ocean is moving over this hotspot and i wouldn't move a hotspot the the the hot the heat
and the lava
accumulate and push up twenty six thousand feet and make islands which had initially are still active volcanoes but then they move off the hotspot
to the north west
when they're not on the hotspot anymore more they're not volcanoes and then the new volcanoes come up and this has been going on for hundreds of millions of years i suppose and will probably go on little longer and now the island has moved so that on the slope of one of the other mountains
the hotspot spots coming up in new places which will become new
here's mountain some day
the last island the most north west island of hawaii is i think of anybody's or bendtner but i heard that it's basically flat
it used to be a big it it's it it's a top of an old volcano and and he used to come out of the water quite a bit but over the millions of years it's got worn down by the water in the wind so now it's flat and if you go than from that flat one back to this one you go into the mountains
gradually grow because they've been out and getting eroded for shorter times but this island that we're looking at now will someday probably be up in the northwest and get flat and they'll be other islands coming up
so we have this volcanic activity going on
which i talk to you about the last month when i was here i told you that
the like
i heard about this teaching a long time ago
which in sanskrit is called to target of garba
and when i whenever i mentioned sanskrit i'm conscious that you're not
what's the word you're not real familiar with sanskrit so it's hard maybe to listen to a foreign language that you're not familiar with
i just tell you that i heard about this teaching called to target the garba which to target it is one of the epithets of buddha
what it means thus common or thus gone one
so the buddha is and awakened one but a buddha is also a to togheter one who has gone gone to such this and return from sections
and the garbage is basically womb
womb or matrix

and this this this expression ha
expresses the confidence that all living beings
fully possess the wisdom and virtues of the buddha's
that we are they to talk to garba
all of us together or the womb of the buddha

and i also part of the reason and i am so i have quite a few years ago i heard about that and i started to study
i'm a text which is called
ratna go traveling bunga
mahayana who tara
tantra
shastra
and that text and and in in tibet they usually called oh tara
tantra shastra but the whole name of the thing is rotten go to be bunger mahayana who tata or tundra shastra rotten a gotcha ratna it means jeweled or jewels and god remains linear
edge and be bonga me is like a discussion of it
so it's attacks which discusses the germ or the seed or the lineage of the jewel
what judah buddha dharma sangha
the buddha dharma sangha is like and is like a reproducing system it it's like you know it's like a living reality which has a lineage and it reproduces itself and so this this is a text which is about the see
seed of the buddha dharma sangha
the lineage of buddha dharma sangha
and the next part is monitored term
highest not the great vehicle highest
ah tantra
a about about this
the seed of
the buddha dharma sangha
and in this scripture in this it's not really a scripture it's a commentary on the teaching of to target the garbage so it's a whole text a big text
it the basic text has
it's seventy seven pages in english of ah sanskrit verses
and then there's a commentary on those verses
and it's basically about this to target the garba
to target the garbage is very similar to the word buddha statue in sanskrit which means literally buddha element but usually as translated as buddha nature
so this text which i studied quite a while ago
is about the womb
have the to target or the womb in which the buddha dharma and sangha live
and it's also about the are buddha nature
the whole taxes about that and it's really beautiful i felt but i stopped study because i started to feel like this seems to be contradicting buddhism
because it teaches at this
that there's something in isn't that is buddha nature is actually
the way something very pure
in sanskrit nirmala
nirmala taught data
it's about something that is such us the way things are unmixed with any pollution
the perfect the fully enlightened buddha is
reality as it is unmixed with pollution
the to talk the garber buddha-nature is som alla tank data
it is
reality mixed with pollution
and the the buddha dharma sangha grow out of
such in this reality mix with pollution and such as unmixed with solution
and the qualities of such as unmixed with pollution and the and the activity of such as on next with pollution
but the perfectly awakened buddha
it's not enough to give rise to the buddha dharma and sangha it's the fully awakened buddha who's just the way things are and sentient beings who are the just the way things are mixed with not the way things are and those together
either or what creates the jaws of buddhism
but this this sadness on mix with pollution is talked about in this text and it is self it is eternal
it is joy it is purity it is the opposite of it is actually when it called the upside down views sound just like the upside down views but it's not the upside down use one of the upside down views the upside down views of of buddhism are to see
in what is not self or self
to see or believe in what is not joyful joy to see and what does not purity period to see in what is not
eternal
permanence does upside down view but this isn't the characteristics of this
of the buddha or not to see in the self what is not the self is to see the self where there's a self and as to see eternity or this eternity as to see enjoy where there's joy and as to say purity where there's purity
but and why backed off that teaching because it thought
i'm a be polluting myself to start hearing about self
eternity joy and purity
which against sound like the upside down views but they're not
the upside down views is to see those four things in where they aren't
but they are part of our life
because our life is
the way things really are mixed with
our attachments and confusion
another thing which encouraged me to start studying this quite a while ago was that i heard that is to target garbutt teaching is very this buddha-nature teaching dashed to target the garber teaching is very influential in zen big part of them
which it is
but i felt nervous about that to that we have this kind of non buddhist thing mixed with zen
but i i told you last month i read the nirvana sutra recently and i got to apart which is called melt medicine
and i told you that story last time to i
and that encouraged me to now start studying to target to garba again
there in early buddhism
people were addicted
as as usual to seeing self where there is no self
to seeing purity where there is no purity and so on there were addicted to these upside down views so the buddha taught them no self
no permanence impermanence know purity and
you know not joy
suffering he taught them that
as a recovery process from this addiction
after hundreds of years of buddhist practice of reversing these upside down views into right views
this new movement comes of the great vehicle and part of it is to say
in the nirvana sutra
which is probably put together a broad three hundred c e and then nirvana sutra that gives us example of the milk medicine
that when people are addicted to milk and using it addictively as medicine the buddha prohibited after their free of using it as medicine addictively than the buddha says sometimes milk is the best medicine
sometimes is to target a garba is the best medicine but
it's sometimes not the best medicine so i'm bringing it out
and i'm thinking you know is this is this an r rated talk
is this a p g thirteen talk is this a pg forty six talk is a cpg fifty five talk i think it's not p g thirteen fifteen twenty eight sixty five it's not it but it is p g it needs parental guidance in order to stuff
it is teaching we have to study this teaching
and we have to we have we we have to do this together otherwise we might misunderstand it so i think like i am i'm not your partner not your parent but i am here to help you
to support you do not misunderstand this teaching of buddha nature
and
wall mounted talk
and to see if maybe now's the time when this is gonna be good medicine for us

i'm sitting on this hotspot
and this is causing me to talk to you about this and to feel joy in now studying this material again which i'm doing and i'm sharing with you

but that's not the own that's not the full extent of the volcanic activity

again for a long time well known as for thirty or forty years as zen center
we have been doing
a monthly
confession and repentance ceremony
in relation with the bodhisattva precepts
so we practice confession and repentance and we also invoked the presence of the
of the buddha's the to targeters and the body surface
and then we express the bodhisattva vows and then we go for refuge in the three treasures
we've been doing that ceremony and i've heard again for sort of towards the beginning at that time for thirty or forty years i've heard that in asia when they do this ceremony
they often or
usually
they read a scripture as part of the ceremony which we do not do
we have not done at the same cisco's and center we've done the confession repentance ceremony which i just told you about
but we have not been reading a scripture and the scripture that they read is called in sanskrit brahmas net scuse me in sanskrit is called brahma jolla's sutra
and there's two brahma giallo sutures one is in poly and it's about admitted it's about trans practices john a practice and there's another one in sanskrit and chinese which is totally different scripture just happen to have the same name in
sanskrit or polly
so translated it's brahmas net scripture
it's about the bodhisattva precepts so it is read during the bodhisattva precepts confession and repentance ceremony but we haven't been doing it
and part of their isn't why we didn't do it one of the reasons is
we didn't even know about it we heard about it but we didn't know what it was and then
some number of years ago i found of translation of it
and
yeah
and i read it and i realized that a lot of the esoteric teachings around bodhisattva precepts transmission is from that sutra
which again makes sense that you would read that sutra in these ceremonies and we also reside this parchment surgery and other ceremonies that we were not the that you're not so familiar with
then if quite recently
jeff hunter told me
that he whisks looking at that searcher
and asked him to send it to me and he sent it to me
and then i learned quite recently
that the sutra that i had seen before was just a second part of that sergio
so the such as two parts one part is about on the basically the first part in a way is about
to talk into garba
about buddha nature as the context for the bodhisattva precepts
so in the first part deals is great
presentation of various stages of the development of this buddha nature
and then in the second part you have the actual expression of these precepts which are said to be for all living beings whose original nature is pure
that's what this says in the second part of that sutra before giving the bodhisattva precepts

these precepts are for all sentient beings
whose original nature is pure
we have sort of up a later development nature do which is not pure but our original nature is pure and
we are a mixture of our original nature which is pure and later developments which are not were a mixture of that and these precepts are for us but it doesn't say
in in the part i'm quoting from that second part of that sutra the brahma snapped sutra it doesn't say these precepts are for all sentient beings whose nature is impure
of course it's for
sentient beings whose nature is impure but it's also the a sentient beings who have an impure nature the news is they have an original pure nature which is pure
and this precept or the precepts which we receive in this tradition

and along with
along with the surgery that just sent me
is a commentary a big commentary the searchers not very long
it's only about maybe
i don't know i forgot to knock the pages it's not very long
in chinese
i think the second part of the sutra is like seven pages in the title which is about like twenty-one pages because it title has each pages three panels so it's like
the second part is like twenty one pages and first parts about tournament so whole sutures about i would say only about fifty pages it's not a big one but with the commentary it's really big hundreds of pages and the commentary is by a korean scholar
and i thought oh people cannot deal with this
but i feel like maybe the time has come for you to deal to view to be open yourself to
the brahmas net sutra which is the place where our precepts come from that sutra is where the are bodhisattva precepts come from there are other bodhisattva precepts sutures but this is the one that almost all east asian
body sought for precept people that's where they get it get the precepts
and i also just briefly mentioned that the number precepts is the total number just say the number of precepts is ten grave precepts
bodhisattva precepts which are the ten great precepts of our tradition and i brought
oh some cards sonia and i brought some cards which have the ten grade precepts on him and those are in that sutra and then in addition there's forty eight minor precepts
and if you look and the forty eight minor precepts we do not usually transmitted this school but i think i'd be good for you to read them
and particularly because they are not for monks and nuns only they're mostly for the people for business people and parents and kings and see always and c f o's there for those kinds of people there for lay people
so those it so those are forty eight so the total is fifty eight
these precepts hard for all sentient beings for monks nuns layman and lay women they're also for people who are not buddhist but we usually don't give them people must they want them so but that that's for their for their for everybody who's nature
is originally pure and develop some how wonderfully
the plot is thickened
the original nature is thickened with the plot of delusion

if you want to read scripture you can buy it
and you can also receive it on the internet if you'd like to have it sent to you
you can write to sonia rep assistant at sfcc dot org and she'll mail you the sutra and you can read it ah your email
are you given the league she'll give you the link and then you can receive this sutra which is again
the source of the bodhisattva precepts in east asia
the tibetans know about this too but it's not as influential into bed as in china korea and japan and by the with this great job discrete korean scholar among many chinese and korean scholars he's the one who is most influential in japan
which again i never heard about
but he had a strong influence on japanese mahayana bodhisattva for practice and i'm not koreans but i'll say his name guy shurn duration which the chinese characters for that are great
intelligence or great wisdom
he lived and the eighth century
his his up
his commentary on this sutra was probably a little written in the first half of the eighth century
and in japan hundreds of commentaries have been written on this scripture
it's very influential and ah
if you i'll just tell you before and it's really pretty far out

right after it in the surgery right after it says
right up in the teacher at the main teacher of the sutra is viral china buddha dharma of viral china border
and and vi return of buddha says these precepts
our for all living beings whose original nature is pure and then he says
now i buy on a buddha seated on a thousand peddled lotus flower platform
and on each platform is a shocking mooney buddha
so this fire john is seated on a thousand peddled lotus and on each pedal is a shocking when a a sitting
and with that jackie moon eight shakyamuni buddha has i believe a trillion other shocking money buddhists with him and each buddha has an inexhaustible buddha land
and is from here by rotana goes on to give you a picture of where these precepts are coming from
so if you read it and you know it's too much to stop and come back later but it is it is again hundred and to say i i don't want to say other than it's very influential it's in the background
round of our
bodyshop a precept tradition and is also coming from this buddha-nature
to target to garba perspective

so i i was talking to the priestess and center about studying the scripture and as i got into talking to about it i thought
maybe it's too much like go through it in a group i think so i recommended that they read it and after they read it after they've all read it if they want to study it in detail we could do that

and then we could even do it with the commentary
this is a possible thing that might happen with the priests at gringotts but so far we're not doing it i just have one to you read it in the meantime someone said to me you've never taught the platform sutra
which is sometimes called the platform through sutra of the sixth ancestor of zen way on
and it's true i never did teach it i i read it
long time ago like like around yeah ninety seventy i started reading it it was translated sixty seven and i i read it and seventy and yeah i still have the book and i have my notes for nineteen seventy is lovely
but i never taught it
and i had various reasons for why not two but when it was brought up i never tire i thought well maybe now's the time to do it because
because i wanted to study that
bodhisattva precepts sutra the brahmas and etc i feel like people need to get familiar with before it study it but we have another precepts searcher the platform sutra short version it says platform sector but it's actually bodhi sought a precept platform surgery the
platform is a is a platform that
the preceptor the teacher sits on
so i that the let's go look at the platform sutra and see how the zen people deal with these precepts
and it's the same and and so are so we're starting a platform sutra now and what i'm finding which i found before but more comfortably is that the bodhisattva precepts in a platform sutra are buddha nature bodhisattva priests
naps
and again in that platform center of the zen sixth ancestor who recalled
before
introducing
a practice called
i believe
formless refuge the formless refuges system is a practice in there in that platform sutra in that bodhisattva precepts from sedra there's a section
which is about
formless refuge or receiving the formless refuges
so the six ancestor in this scripture is supposedly said now i will give you the formless three treasures retro the formless refuges in the three treasures and again before he says that he says he quotes
the brahmas net sutra and he tells the people
these precepts are for all sentient beings whose original nature is pure
and then he says now recite with me
and then he does this thing which i'm not yet ready to do with you because i want
i i want to check to see if you're ready for it before i do it then he goes on to transmit
the formless
refuges in a three precept the three jaws

so i i i wouldn't be surprised if you feel overwhelmed by all that i said and so i'm in a pause now before i actually i thought i'm actually am i don't want to talk to you too much more about the
brahmas net sutra until you've read some of you have read it but i do feel like maybe i can start talking to you about the body sought the platform sutra of the sixth ancestor of zen
because again that is
when i look at the platform sutra i see various elements
in there that are in our bodhisattva precepts ceremonies and when i look at the sutra i also see various elements that are taken from both of those places so again the platform sutra i see coming from
the to target garba teaching and also coming from the brahmas net sutra and i see our ceremony coming from both
and from all these surgeries in the background of those two so behind the to target a garbage teaching his the nirvana sutra the of a time second surgery
the to target the garbus sutra and saunders is huge my masterpieces behind these bodhisattva precepts ceremonies
and i
maybe
maybe wanna say that
i think i'm i'm sitting on this hotspot and i'm moving slow i'm i'm going north west slowly
i'm gonna be on this hotspot for a while and i will share with you the lava
i will share with you the in order it's more like that what does it called the magma is called magma it's the is coming up and i'm very joyful to had is coming up and i feel like maybe i can share with you
and week and you can sit on the same spot there's plenty of room
on the top of this volcano
so
i i'm pausing

i'm pausing and i'm joyful and i want to be careful not to her
say too much yes
to question
number where you
you don't want to just
now
quick we could we can do that so we can we can put the link i will you can put can put the link on the board
and if somehow that doesn't work you could email yes charlie
page right next to the stuff we could put the link on the dharma talk page
who also
so it can put it on the please
i have tried to charlie
he can put it on damage page and somebody i don't know who or right the link on the bulletin board maybe you will ya
question more
mm yeah go ahead it is going to the wrong net sutra or is it to the forty eight
in the brahman in the brahmas net sutra
in the second part
the fifth the fifty a bodhisattva precepts are presented and discussed
can you give us a sample of one of the ones we don't know that
yeah
not eating meat
does not explicitly said in the
in the first ten but it isn't in the ladder forty eight not eating meat
also in actually in the first ten
precept number five actually in the text you wouldn't you will see if you read it it's actually the precept of not selling intoxicants
but i think in the early days of zen center
since a girl she felt more problem we should say not just because not everybody is a drug dealer
but lot of people use drugs
so zen center didn't make a policy not to sell drugs
in the zendo
but not take drugs and the zendo because people were taking drugs one
actually i think maybe that maybe the first almost the first of them forty eight is not to take drugs not to not to take in intoxicants
and number five in the first time is not to sell them so that that's one that's we when the the that's one of the forty eight that's in there are ten because we felt like we should mention is that one of the forty eight for people because most people don't think of themselves well i'm not going to sell
okay
yeah right
yes
first i thought someone we're talking about
the promotion
thirty four so to beings of pure worrying
well whose original nature is pure
in this
this sutra says this these precepts are for all sentient beings
oh that whose nature natural pure this purchase saying the dog addict to target garbage teaching is saying all sentient beings
original nature is
the target a garba
and there there's a debate some yoga tara some some of the mahayana philosophers think that there's some people who do not with his precepts are not for who are core incurably polluted there is that opinion floating around
but then
it seems to
go with the nirvana sutra which says
as as teaching about the you know
the amount medicine and the nirvana sutra says all sentient beings without exception have the buddha nature or another translation could be the way dog and interprets of all sentient beings whole being is buddha nature but buddha-nature is not
just the pure it's the pure mingled with the empire hope we all have this mixture and we also all him this original nature
just like art
so-called are unconscious process has the seeds for nirvana and the seeds for some sour
our body and mind have the seeds for nirvana and the seeds for some sour and the seeds for your bonnet
are coming from an unmixed such as unmixed reality in our body can i might unmixed perfectly pure that's that's in us but also we have the impure and those two together is where the to target to is born the
the perfectly pure grows up with all sentient beings and that's what that rotten a go to new bonga mahayana on tara contra shastras about as to discuss this
what would you are away research
the consequence will
preserved of money come from the
yeah great i'm not killing yeah
what it also teaches that all these precepts come from egypt all the others the on mutual included that's not a part of the teaching there is that you know not selling and toxicants goes with not killing not
taking was my given and so on off all the other each of the ten include the other nine but also each of the fifty eight include the other fifties seven
that's again part of the teaching of buddha nature
i'm an avid second procedure we all fully possess the wisdom and virtue of the buddha
we all include each other and are included in each other that's our nature
and that nature is originally pure but also it is possible that we have attachments and misconceptions so that interferes with our enjoyment of our true nature which is what we're here for us to learn how to
deal with
those attachments
and misunderstandings in a way to awaken to our true nature so again in a platform sutra for bodhisattva precepts
over and over again it has said see your original nature and become buddha but also see that your original nature is buddha your original nature is buddha your original nature is buddha see that
and seeing nature is again called can show
which is in you know in zen often acquainted with enlightenment see your nature you've got your nature see it but you can't see your nature unless you look at your not nature you can't see original pure nature unless you observe your impure nature with eyes of
compassion so two months ago i was stressing or more zen practice is to observe
the cries of the world the cries of the world other cries of deluded beings are the cries of delusion that the cries of fear and arrogance and self righteousness and confusion and attachment and hatred all this stuff's calling for compassion all these are like not re
really our original nature
but if you observe them with eyes of compassion they all turn into dartmouth doors
and you see your original nature and everything
because all these pollutions are intimately cohabiting in your buddha-nature
and as we know it's really a challenging work to moment by moment be listening to all the cries of the world
so one of our regular members catherine for both has had the kind of stroke where you have bleeding in the brain and so she is
yeah so is she's still recovering or she's still in the process of dealing with this and has affected her made her vision and
maybe add term
at the works go eileen and catherine could tell you more about her situation
so this afternoon will do up
a while being ceremony for her and she also wants us to do a well being ceremony for her sisters
and also if you want other people to be included well-being ceremony may i ask you to tell the sonia their names
and we'll have a well ceremony for catherine
who you'll learn more about if you wish and work circle her sisters and
i i talk catherine oh three sisters
there's there's three beautiful mountains in oregon called the three sisters
so that's she remembers their remembering that there are three beautiful mountains
there are calling for compassion so we will chat
this the when i got the ten verse
listening to the cries of the world scripture
which reminds us to constantly warm by moment listened to the cries of the world this is our basic you know the pedal point the basic practice a bodhisattvas is to observe all sentient beings with eyes of compassion and then we can see we can wake up
to the original nature of all sentient beings
yes
something is ringing about her history that i've heard isn't buddha nature controversial at some point where it sort of pushed out of
there's not supposed to be any
either existing an acer or separator yeah well that was in a way i wouldn't in a way this thing about on
the the self as i said with before the self was pushed out in early buddhism this was later that they said they have to keep have to keep pushing yourself out when when people when people see self where there isn't a self than you
keep them no self
so that it's an ongoing as a perennial problem that we see yourself where there isn't yourself
kind of go back and forth
in teaching it you could say it goes back important
that
for some people it's appropriate to teach no self are not self because they're addicted to seeing a self where there isn't one
once they've recovered it still may be fine for them there is still find not to see yourself where isn't a out that that will be an ongoing good thing to be into don't see us off where there isn't
but at some point in the evolution it may be good for you to see a self for there is
so
the pot from center is saying over and over see yourself nature
and become buddha so part of what it takes to make a buddha is to see that the the to see that sometimes the like it says in a look in nirvana sutra there's reasons why the to togheter teachers no self
and there's reasons why the to togheter teach herself
i do not teach that there is no self
but i do teach yourself
and that he doesn't teach that there isn't or he teaches no self he teaches that's not a self
that's just an illusion that than you're looking at
so there's reasons why the buddha teaches not self and it is not sell to people who are addicted to their ideas of self
addicted to their ideas of self so they experienced the of afflictions of self delusion
confusion some you sell pride and i would say sell power or you know trying to control things that's what happens when you see yourself where there isn't one so buddha teaches no self to them when they're recovered in order to
come buddha you need to also see the all sentient beings original nature is pure
that their self nature is pure of that's not teaching which came out supposedly at the time of the sixth ancestor
and continues to be like i said when i looked as the roof looks like you're making this thing there
but the buddha nature is mixed with making a thing they're so part of our nature are superficial nature is to make things out of our life to make our life into a thing that's that that's are sort of our basic pollution is we make our life into a constricted graspable version of
our life and we believe it and attached to it that's part of or doing also we're not doing that we're not really doing that
we never really do that we just think we do it and thinking we do it
we suffer
and denying that would think we're doing it we suffer
ah yeah yes how does it how does the sun sand okay some zakaria oh i didn't differ crown stg how does it differ
how's is similar to how does the sound okay teaching how is it similar to this teaching
our one one way that the sound okay teaching is different is i think it right from the beginning it puts more emphasis on face to face transmission
but i but and but this teaching is what his face to face transmission so that's not a dollar per that that's the same to so i fail to find a difference words the same is there which i thought was a difference but nice is not and it's also the same words as right and light there is darkness
right in darkness there is light it also i think it says right in darkness
there is light but don't try to see it as light
right and light there is darkness but something
mr huh
yeah so
right and delusion
right an impurity
there's a there's purity but when you're looking at the impurity don't try to like peel the and back to try to see the impurity underneath it
yeah don't try to peel the impurity away so you can see the purity even though right in the impurity his purity and also when you're looking at purity don't take when you're looking at the when you see the light don't try to hold onto the light
so here side by side yeah that's the to target the garba is that
purity is mingled with impurity dark as mic mingle with light the spiritual source
shines in darkness that in
precious mere samadhi
the spiritual source is shining and darkness
the branching streams which are light are flowing in darkness
so that's the same they're talking about i would say buddha-nature
but it's also saying don't tamper with either the light or dark
don't tamper with pollution and delusion and confusion observe all that and cries that come with it with eyes of compassion and you will see the light will be revealed in the darkness but also observed the light the same way
with eyes of compassion and your won't grab the light and make a dark
so sound again hope gets on my are unfolding the same teaching i would say but also giving you instructions of a hero about how to watch
how to observe in the proper way so that there can be revelation
of again you will be able to see your true nature and become buddha
yes
the word that came to my mind was the fear
the thought of the year the thought of the existence of ear ah
delusion so we've got fear thought of fear delusion delusion guess we got all that so yes
so all that stuff
the all that is pollution what you just told me about those pollutions
there are the polish and and left after his theories there is some such a thing as no pollution that's another pollution as another lucia
and all the pollutions are welcome here
so as long as you are in this circle
young of
words and bars and illusion yeah
there is no way to see what is other than what is your state and that's an and what you just said is another pollution
but i agree with it i agree with that pollution i mean i'm not i disagree with that pollution so i have another pollution for you in this circle which is called consciousness i call consciousness
also called self consciousness in this circle
where this pollution if we observe all the pollution with eyes of compassion we will see that we don't have to get out of this polluted consciousness because this polluted consciousness is totally pervaded by
completely
pure original nature
so we live in pollution
and if we really observe the completion of pollution with highs of compassion an ocean of blessing will come to open the doors on our true nature
without getting out
guess of this polluted consciousness but but not staying there either just observe it going to be there even you have to be here to observe it
it on to go any place and as for stillness comes in it are to move just he just need to be a bodhisattva and observe all this with eyes of compassion and there will be revelation of true nature which is not any place other than this pollution the
unpolluted his mingled intimately with the polluted
the unpolluted such miss the unpolluted reality is mixed with polluted reality or the reality that it was pollution with it
but you can't see you can see the pollution but you can't see the on pollution our eyes are not adequate for it but wisdom is adequate to see it
and wisdom the doors or wisdom open when we are compassionate tours what we can see and we can hear
which we can basically see and hear basically are unpolluted consciousness
yes
first suture the name of the first century that you mentioned the reference
it's not a sutra it is it is a shastra it's a commentary it's a it's a work of my on literature based on the searchers based on the hobbit tom saga sutra and nirvana sutra and there's a to target a garbus sutra but that's together garden sutra
i haven't seen much impact of that sutra
and there's other suitors also joined the background of this rotten a godhra the manga
it's a commentary by by it's a commentary by my trail
who might be in the bodhisattva my tray but when the author of this commentary on these my honor teachings is called my trail
and end it was written down by the grade teacher a saga
so i heard that the word lying on the contrary
oh tara mirjana who taught us tantra tara so
i think when at that time taunt didn't mean what it means to us now
it probably meant just fabric
like the the the ultimate fabric of the my on
so one one etymology of of tundra is fabric or cloth or we've so the ultimate we've the ultimate like we say and at the beginning of the book of serenity
the boy gets up and sits
the such as unpolluted with various comments
just perfectly unadulterated
perfect buddhahood sitting there and nobody knows what to do with it so then manjushri pollutes it
it goes
clearly observe
the teaching of the sovereign teacher of dharma is thus are clearly observed the teaching of the sovereign of
dharma the teaching of the sovereign of dharmas thus so i wonder if it pollutes it so we can realize that start teaching it's occurred even though he didn't hear anything or see anything and then the boarding is down and then the first celebrates it by saying the yuneec breeze of reality can you see it

creation constantly working her loom and shuttle incorporating the patterns of spring into the ancient brocade but i say that because into the ancient tantra
the ancient transcendent tundra is how we're all working together
how we're all doing face to face transmission all the time with each other in perfect harmony
and then we take the but we still take the new pattern and incorporated into the brocade the new cry
the new suffering the new confusion and incorporate that in to the ancient procare
yes
say they are impure is mixed with the pure
then it sounds like the impure must be something other than pure didn't make it does i'm i bet yeah but disaster that's part of the teaching is the empire is itself
a pure
and that way strictly speaking a reason recently can't in fact that mixes or less pure hublot how i mingle
how about being intimately hang out together
hubbard their needs you going to have one without the other i have a pure expresses itself as an impure i'm no longer time when he
but i although don't sign it maybe hour later i will
i won't be rigid or anything he can not happen

manifests
i would say
to top tata tata so the buddha's called one of the epithet a buddha is ta ta agata tatar to agata such as com
our such as goes card data gotta dance data i gotta to understand
so i objects such as tant data that either agata as or got us our goddamn is thought that data coming thought that i got them is such as going and you can't tell which because it turns out that long a
and you can't tell whether it's thus gone are thus come i would say as both an east asian buddhism buddhism some people would say so certain schools of east asian buddhism like pure land emphasize tell data agata
thought that i'm not gone and other schools would emphasize data duck gotta thought that are gone anyway
todd data
near marla
data without pollution
doesn't express itself
he thought that ah expresses itself as associated with delusion and associated with purity so such as can be with purity or without but sessions doesn't really manifest as impurity
it just as with impurity or not with impurity and with impurity and nadim and and the with impurity with impurity saw marla data such as reality with impurity is sentient beings
nearer mala thought data such as without impurity is the buddha
and those two are under separable but it isn't that ah data mingles with impurity or with purity it just it's associate with them the nature and
is actually period know the nature of the impurity is tata talk
in that period
no way it does it does cantata isn't purity or impurity it just that there is tonto talk without pollution it's as near mama so there's tons data with no pollution and sort of you an excuse me for saying so but near him up
such as with hod pollution that the buddha takes the rap for them
so there's a there's the perfectly enlightened one who is such as without impute with an impurity but it's the such this isn't the impurity or the purity
such as is better than either one but in fact there can be such as without impurity and they can be such as with purity and those two
hang out together because the buddha which is such as without
impurity is inseparable from such as with purity name the us and the one the the such miss not associate who was impurity
not associated with pollution that's such this
says the dharma to the such anus with the impurity so that
buddha target are not associated with purity conveys these bodhisattva precepts to are sentient beings who hang out with impurity we hang out with it and we are such as hanging out with it and buddha as such as not hanging out with it but transmitting the precepts
for for us is a replication impurity is just a is a p purity
well purity and kind of has redefined you and
so
i think you can you can purify not associated with
impurity and you can reapply associated with impurity
but the fact that that that reapplication doesn't really exist is is data
yeah that's our original true nature which you can also add period of that and that's called the dharma body
of the buddha
and again i i owe you know
i'm just we're just warming up to this teaching and i think it's it's calling for a lot more compassion a lot more listening
and lot more conversation this is a last month and this month or warming up to this
potentially controversial teaching
but one which i'm sorry to say you
you can't get away from it in the platform sutra and the first few generations after the six ancestor
ah particularly on that
on the side of the lineage over by matsu it's nonsense full of this buddha-nature stuff and and by and it's a boon nash all over the place it's hard to get away from i'm sorry so maybe it's time to like
made it and converse with it
and as i said this is bodhisattva precepts seem to be buddha nature bodhisattva precepts
so there's enough for this morning i mean for this afternoon but his early afternoon

i hope that nobody got burned by the
the that
does not touch returning
yeah turning away and touching this this lava flow
i'm not recommended
but but
